9mobile, the telecommunications company recently rebranded as T2, has reported its first subscriber increase of 2025, adding 290,601 new customers in July. This growth comes after a significant infrastructure-sharing agreement with MTN, Nigeria’s largest mobile network operator. This deal is seen as a turning point for 9mobile, which had been struggling with a declining customer base for nearly a year.
In July, 9mobile was the only telecom operator among the four major companies to gain subscribers, while competitors like MTN, Airtel, and Globacom reported losses. The overall mobile subscriptions in Nigeria fell to 169.1 million, primarily due to Airtel losing 2.4 million subscribers. Despite the challenges in the market, 9mobile’s partnership with MTN allows its customers to access services in areas where 9mobile’s network was previously weak.
The infrastructure-sharing agreement enables 9mobile to use MTN’s extensive network, helping to improve service delivery without the high costs of building its own infrastructure. This collaboration is expected to enhance 9mobile’s market position and contribute to its long-term growth. With this positive momentum, the company aims to strengthen its subscriber base and improve overall customer satisfaction.
