
The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has praised Google, Microsoft, and TikTok for their ongoing adherence to the Code of Practice for Interactive Computer Service Platforms. This commendation comes as the companies submitted their 2024 compliance reports, highlighting their commitment to user safety and responsible online practices.
According to the compliance reports, a total of 13,597,057 accounts were closed or deactivated, showcasing the platforms’ proactive approach in managing harmful content. The Code of Practice, developed in collaboration with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), sets clear guidelines aimed at promoting online safety.
Key statistics from the compliance reports include:
- 754,629 registered complaints from users.
- 58,909,112 instances of content takedown.
- 420,439 pieces of content that were removed and subsequently reuploaded following user appeals.
These figures reflect the platforms’ dedication to creating a secure digital environment for Nigerian users. NITDA emphasized that ongoing collaboration among all stakeholders is essential for building a safer online space. The agency is committed to working with industry players, civil society, and regulatory partners to enhance digital literacy, trust, and transparency within Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.
