The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has impounded more than 700 vehicles in Abuja due to violations like tinted windows without permits and fake number plates. This action was taken during a recent stop-and-search operation at key locations, including the Apo–Wassa junction and the Karu axis. The FCTA aims to tackle the rising number of “one-chance” robberies linked to these vehicles.
Adamu Gwary, the Director of the Department of Security Service, explained that the operation is part of a broader initiative called “Operation Sweep Abuja Clean.” This multi-agency effort has already seen success, including the recovery of seven stolen vehicles in just one week. Gwary emphasized that many victims reported being robbed by individuals in tinted vehicles, highlighting a concerning trend.
The FCTA has warned vehicle owners, especially taxi drivers, that there is no justification for using tinted glass, as it can help criminals hide their activities. The ongoing operations aim to reduce crime significantly and make Abuja safer. The FCTA encourages residents to cooperate with enforcement officers as they continue these important efforts for community safety.
