The Federal Government of Nigeria has initiated a Tax Reform Challenge, offering a total prize of N10 million to engage students in discussions about the country’s new tax laws. Announced by Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, the competition aims to raise awareness and promote understanding of tax reforms among young Nigerians. The challenge encourages students to contribute innovative ideas that can influence fiscal policies.
The competition is open to undergraduates from all Nigerian tertiary institutions and recent graduates currently participating in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). Participants are required to create and submit content such as articles, videos, or social media posts related to the new tax reforms, which must be educational and fact-based. Entries can be critical of the reforms, and the best submissions will be evaluated based on creativity and their ability to engage the public on tax issues.
Winners of the challenge will receive cash prizes, with N5 million for the first prize, N3 million for the second, and N2 million for the third. Additionally, top 10 finalists will receive consolation prizes, including gadgets and opportunities for internships. The initiative aims to boost fiscal literacy and encourage youth involvement in shaping Nigeria’s economic future.
