Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has announced significant changes to the storage policy for live videos on its platform. Effective February 19, 2025, new live broadcasts will only be available for replay, download, or sharing for a period of 30 days. After this period, these videos will be automatically deleted, ending Facebook’s previous policy of indefinite storage.
The company stated that most views of live videos occur within the first few weeks, prompting this update to align with industry standards and enhance the overall live video experience. As part of this transition, all live videos older than 30 days will be deleted in phases over the coming months. Users will receive notifications via email and in-app alerts before their archived videos are removed, allowing them 90 days to download or transfer their content.
To assist users in retaining their live videos, Facebook has introduced new tools for downloading and transferring content. Options include single and bulk downloads, as well as the ability to transfer videos to cloud storage services like Dropbox or Google Drive. Additionally, users can convert portions of their live broadcasts into reels to keep favorite moments accessible beyond the 30-day limit.
For those who wish to extend the deletion timeline, Facebook offers a six-month postponement option, which can be activated through notifications received about the deletion.
