Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has reaffirmed its commitment to creating job opportunities for youths through the Digital Job Creation for Youths (DJCY) programme. The programme has already benefited over 2,000 youths from the six geopolitical zones of the country, with 600 currently being trained in the ongoing edition.

The DJCY programme aims to equip youths with customised training and fully-loaded laptop computers with networking devices to enable them to engage in different digital entrepreneurship businesses. The beneficiaries are provided with free accommodation facilities for two weeks, during which resource persons in digital skills, business development and management, retool them with their laptops to re-orientate them towards self-discovery, self-development, and self-employment.

The DJCY programme is in line with the National Digital Economic Policy and Strategy (NDEPS) 2020-2030, which encourages the promotion of Digital Literacy and Skills through “massive training of Nigerians from all walks of life in order to enable them to obtain digital literacy and other digital skills.” Hundreds of participants in the previous two editions have reported gainful self-employment opportunities, using the laptops and internet connectivity tools provided by the Commission.

Professor Umar Garba Danbatta, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO, NCC, expressed the Commission’s full commitment to the programme, citing positive feedback from previous editions and its potential to enhance digital opportunities for Nigerian youth in the country’s digital economy.
