The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has introduced a new requirement for the upcoming 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration. Starting with this registration cycle, all candidates must declare their current admission status, specifically whether they are already enrolled in any tertiary institution. This move aims to reduce cases of impersonation and examination malpractice that were observed during the 2025 UTME.
According to JAMB, over 90% of candidates involved in examination irregularities last year were already students at various institutions. The board clarified that the UTME is intended solely for those seeking new admissions, and students already in higher education cannot participate unless they disclose their status. Candidates who fail to provide accurate information may face severe penalties, including the cancellation of their registration and the revocation of any previous admissions.
In addition to the admission status requirement, JAMB reiterated the necessity for candidates to upload their O’level results promptly. The board stressed that no applicant will be considered for admission without verified results on record. This initiative is part of JAMB’s ongoing efforts to maintain the integrity of the admission process and ensure a fair opportunity for all prospective students.
