Suspension of Evaluation and Accreditation of Degree Certificates from Foreign Universities
The Federal Ministry of Education has recently made a significant decision to suspend the evaluation and accreditation of degree certificates obtained from the Republic of Benin and Togo. This move comes in response to an undercover investigation that uncovered a degree mill operating in Cotonou, the capital of Benin.
The investigation, conducted by an undercover reporter, shed light on alarming practices within certain educational institutions in Benin and Togo. It revealed swift degree acquisition and participation in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), raising concerns about the authenticity and quality of degrees obtained from these institutions.
To ensure transparency and protect the interests of Nigerian students, the National Universities Commission (NUC) has published a list of blacklisted foreign universities on its website. Nigerians are strongly advised against enrolling in the underlisted tabulated institutions due to concerns regarding their credibility and educational standards.
