The Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) has reported temporary disruptions affecting SIM-related services across all mobile networks in Nigeria. This issue stems from a recent directive by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) that mandates mobile network operators (MNOs) to transition to a new identity verification platform.
Engr. Gbenga Adebayo, ALTON’s chairman, explained that the migration process has introduced unforeseen technical challenges, impacting services such as SIM registration, replacement, and Mobile Number Portability (MNP). As a result, MNOs are currently unable to support these services.
ALTON assured that its member companies are committed to regulatory compliance and are collaborating with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and NIMC to resolve these integration issues promptly. They apologized for the inconvenience caused and advised subscribers to postpone visits to service centers for SIM-related transactions until further notice.
