Meta has announced significant updates to WhatsApp’s Updates tab, introducing three new monetization features aimed at helping creators and businesses enhance their presence on the platform. This initiative is part of Meta’s strategy to expand WhatsApp’s business model.
The new features include:
Channel Subscriptions: Users can subscribe to their favorite channels, such as news outlets or creators, for exclusive content at a monthly fee.
Promoted Channels: WhatsApp will suggest new channels to users based on their interests, allowing creators and businesses to increase visibility.
Ads in Status: Businesses can place targeted ads within the Status feature, similar to Instagram Stories, enabling users to discover new products and services.
Meta emphasized that these features maintain WhatsApp’s commitment to user privacy, ensuring that personal messages and calls remain end-to-end encrypted. The rollout of these features will occur gradually over the coming months.
Meta’s updates reflect the platform’s adaptation to changing user behaviors and the increasing demand for monetization options among creators and businesses.
