The National Broadband Alliance for Nigeria (NBAN) has launched a new initiative to provide internet connectivity to nearly 28 million Nigerians living in underserved and unserved areas. This program is part of the country’s broader effort to expand internet access, especially in key community locations such as schools, healthcare facilities, and marketplaces. The initiative aligns with Nigeria’s National Broadband Plan, which aims for 70% broadband penetration by 2025.
The NBAN will collaborate with various stakeholders, including public institutions, telecom operators, and technology companies, to achieve its goals. The initiative will initially focus on states such as Edo, Ogun, and Katsina, which have made progress in addressing challenges related to broadband expansion. The goal is to improve broadband penetration, which is currently at 44.43%, and to foster economic growth and innovation through enhanced internet access.
Minister of Communications Bosun Tijani emphasized that the NBAN is not merely a policy initiative but a commitment to ensuring that every Nigerian has access to the digital tools necessary for success. The government aims to enhance broadband investments significantly, making connectivity a cornerstone of Nigeria’s economic development strategy.
