NCC Temporarily Suspends 3 Communication License Issuance
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has temporarily suspended the issuance of new licenses in three communication categories. The suspension applies to Interconnect Exchange, Mobile Virtual Network Operator, and Value Added Service Aggregator licenses. This decision allows the NCC to conduct a comprehensive review of market dynamics, competition levels, and industry development within these categories. Pending applications will still be considered, and inquiries can be directed to licensing@ncc.gov.ng.
In the notice of the temporary suspension dated 17th May, 2024 signed by Reuben Muoka Director, Public Affairs Department, the NCC aims to promote fair competition and ensure an optimal regulatory framework for the communications industry. By thoroughly examining market dynamics, the NCC intends to create an environment that fosters sustainable growth and equitable opportunities for all stakeholders. The review process will contribute to a level playing field and enhance the overall effectiveness of communication services in Nigeria.
Stakeholders are advised to take note of the temporary suspension and its implications for communication license issuance. The NCC remains committed to transparency and will continue to engage with stakeholders throughout the review period. Further updates will be provided as the commission progresses with its comprehensive evaluation of the Interconnect Exchange, Mobile Virtual Network Operator, and Value Added Service Aggregator license categories.
