NCC Approves Partial Disconnection of Glo from MTN
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has approved a partial disconnection of Globacom Limited (Globacom) from MTN Nigeria Communications Plc. (MTN) due to their failure to settle interconnect charges. This action is in line with the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003, and the Guidelines on Procedure for Granting Approval to Disconnect Telecommunications Operators, 2012.
In a pre-disconnection notice signed by Reuben Muoka, Director of the Public Affairs Department of the NCC, it is stated that after MTN submitted an application, Globacom was duly informed and given an opportunity to respond. After careful examination of the application and the circumstances surrounding the non-payment of interconnect charges, the NCC found that Globacom did not provide sufficient or justifiable reasons for the outstanding debt.
NCC therefore notified all subscribers that, starting from 10 days after the notice was issued, subscribers of Globacom will no longer be able to make calls to MTN. However, they will still be able to receive calls. The partial disconnection will only affect outgoing calls from Globacom to MTN, while in-bound calls to the Globacom network will continue to function.
The regulatory body further stated that the disconnection will remain in effect until further notice
